if x^2=y then
\sqrt{y}=x,
\sqrt{4}=2
\sqrt{9}=3

Cube root

\sqrt[3]{x}=y here \sqrt[3]{x} is known as cube root of x=y
\sqrt[3]{8}=\sqrt{(2*2*2)}=2
\sqrt[3]{x+y}

Finding Square & cube root by factorization

\sqrt{6084}= \sqrt{2*2*3*3*13*13}=2*3*17=78
\sqrt{(248+\sqrt{(51+\sqrt{169})})}           =\sqrt{(248+\sqrt{(51+13)})}           =\sqrt{(248+\sqrt{64})}           =\sqrt{(248+8)}           =\sqrt{256}=16
