General topic for this DL
- What is a logic gate?
- A logic gate is a digital circuit building block that performs a Boolean operation on binary inputs to produce one output.
- What is an AND gate?
- AND gate: output is 1 only when ALL inputs are 1. Truth: 0+0=0, 1+0=0, 0+1=0, 1+1=1.
- What is an OR gate?
- OR gate: output is 1 when ANY input is 1. Output is 0 only when all inputs are 0.
- What is a NOT gate?
- NOT gate (inverter): outputs the opposite of the input. Input 0 → Output 1, Input 1 → Output 0.
- What is a NAND gate?
- NAND = AND + NOT. Output is 0 only when all inputs are 1. It is a universal gate — any circuit can be built from NAND alone.
- What is an XOR gate?
- XOR gate: output is 1 when inputs are DIFFERENT. 0⊕1=1, 1⊕0=1, 0⊕0=0, 1⊕1=0.
- What is a flip-flop?
- A flip-flop is a bistable circuit storing one bit (0 or 1). It is the fundamental unit of memory, registers, and counters.
- What is binary?
- Binary is base-2 number system using 0 and 1. All digital data is stored in binary. Example: 1010₂ = 10₁₀.
- What is a half adder?
- A half adder adds two 1-bit numbers, producing a Sum (XOR) and Carry (AND). It cannot handle incoming carry.
- What is a full adder?
- A full adder adds three 1-bit inputs (A, B, Carry-in) producing Sum and Carry-out. Used to build multi-bit adders.
